Kota Kinabalu: The Kota Kinabalu Food Adventure (KKFA) has successfully promoted Sabah’s local restaurants while bringing the community and businesses closer together, killing two birds with one stone.
“The three-month KKFA festival had boosted business and tourism in Sabah while featuring the State’s unique food culture,” said Deputy Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin at the festival’s closing ceremony, here, recently.
Chan praised the food industry for creating jobs and attracting visitors to Sabah and congratulated the top 20 restaurants that won awards during the festival, saying they had earned recognition through hard work and quality food.
“The food business is important for our economy. It provides work for people and brings in visitors,” Chan said.
The three-month festival, organised by the Entrepreneurs Alliance, featured local restaurants and food outlets across Kota Kinabalu. Chan said the government would continue supporting small businesses to help them grow and compete better.
Festival Organising Committee Chairman Yang Kok Hua said many participating restaurants saw increased sales during the event.
Yang thanked sponsors including Sabah Credit Corporation, YONO, Great Eastern and several other companies for their support.
“The main sponsor YONO had helped restaurants use digital technology to improve their operations and reach more customers,” said Yang.
The festival, which started in 2024, has become popular among both locals and tourists wanting to try Kota Kinabalu’s unique food offerings. Organisers said the positive response showed the strength of Sabah’s food scene.
