Kota Kinabalu: Hyatt Centric Kota Kinabalu has launched the second chapter of its immersive dining experience, Le Petit Chef: In the Footsteps of Marco Polo, combining storytelling with 3D theatre and fine dining, starting Aug 21.
Head Chef Elroy, who leads the culinary team behind the six-course menu, said the concept brings together flavours from both Eastern and Western cultures.
“This Marco Polo episode combines cultures from different parts of the world.
“We created dishes that reflect each region along Marco Polo’s journey from France and Arabia to India, the Himalayas, China and Europe,” he said.

Le Petit Chef is an innovative dining experience that combines storytelling with fine dining using 3D projection mapping and animation. Originating from Belgium, it has gained international acclaim for its unique approach to culinary entertainment.
Behind the elaborate animations lies the Belgian artist collective “Skullmapping”, founded in 2010 by Filip Sterckx and Antoon Verbeeck. Using 3D mapping technology and profound artistic know-how, the 58mm small chef was brought to life in 2015.
Chef Elroy shared that designing the menu required careful research and creativity.
“Chinese cuisine was the most challenging due to its diversity. But Arabic dishes gave us more freedom to be creative with bold flavours,” he explained.
“The theatre is there to enhance the story. But the taste, texture and quality of the food still come first.”
