Tuaran: Nine resolutions were approved by the representatives of the United Asean Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) at the Upko Convention Zone B (Tuaran and Sepanggar) here, recently.

Its President, Datuk Ewon Benedick, said the resolutions were related to upgrading small districts and municipal councils, land surveying through the Pantas programme, treated water supply along the Tamparuli-Pekan Nabalu road, as well as resolutions related to politics such as elections, new seats, and rights claims under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

He said every resolution would be acted upon by every bureau created in the party.

“We have established bureaus to examine, address and follow up on the appropriate actions that Upko can take regarding each of these resolutions with the State and Federal governments.

“There are matters that I will immediately raise with my colleagues in the Federal Cabinet, especially concerning the treated water supply as discussed.

“The same applies to rapid land surveying, which requires the intervention and support of the Federal government and leadership of the Sabah government,” he said after the party’s convention closing speech.

Answering a question about the development of MA63, Ewon, who is also the Minister of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development and PenampangMP, said there is progress on efforts to implement MA63.

“Nine of the 23 agendas of the Malaysia Agreement have already been fully resolved, and the rest are still being discussed at the Technical Committee and will be finalised at Special Council 63,” he said.

Ewon said the convention was a platform for Upko sections to raise the issues of the people and the party.

“At the same time, it is a platform for me explain about the matters that we have resolved, initiatives we have implemented, and policies of the government,” he said.

Also present were Upko Honorary President Datuk Seri Madius Tangau, former President and Founder of Upko, Tan Sri Benard Dompok, former Upko Deputy President Datuk Wilfred Bumburing and Vice President Datuk Dr. Laurentius Nayan Ambu.
