Kota Kinabalu: State Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Christina Liew has urged existing and potential women leaders to participate in the International Women’s Conference 2024 scheduled to be held on August 14-15.

Making the call after a courtesy call by a delegation from the Sabah Women Entrepreneurs and Professionals Association (Swepa) led by its President Karen Wong, she said it would be a great learning, sharing and networking experience for women executives and those in management roles, businesswomen, entrepreneurs, and professionals as well as for government officials.

Wong extended an invitation to the Minister to officiate at the event to be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

The Minister assured that her Ministry would support the Swepa-organised International Women’s Conference 2024 as it is one of the MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Conference & Exhibition) events lined up for 2024.

“This conference is put together for the benefit of the local women community in Sabah, and I understand there will be more than 500 participants from all walks of life.

“It is yet another platform for women to discuss the topics of personal development, health and wellness, leadership styles, economic empowerment, and other relevant issues (affecting them) in today’s challenging era of technology and digitalisation,” Liew said.

Briefing the Minister on preparations for the International Women’s Conference, Swepa Immediate Past President cum Organising Chairman Sitti B. Damsal said the conference would revolve around three themes - Empowering Women Leaders, Breaking Barriers, and Shaping the Future.

Its objectives are geared towards professional development, building networks and partnerships, and cultural exchange, among other areas of concern.

“We are in the process of seeking strategic partners and sponsors. The project launch will take place in May, followed by marketing and promotional activities,” Sitti said, adding that the speakers are from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, the USA and Australia.

Also present were Swepa Vice-President Ophelia Domingo, Treasurer Jenny Lee, Committee Member Jennifer Ho, Legal Adviser Melanie Tann, and Emmie Luhiman from the association’s Secretariat.
