Kota Kinabalu: A 45-year-old policeman was charged with eight counts of receiving monthly bribe for protecting a licensed money changer company’s business.
Inspector Liffindy Ziubin pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Jason Juga to the charge against him.

On the first to eight counts, Liffindy is accused of receiving a total of RM4,000 from an individual between December 2020 and 2021 in which he received RM500 monthly.
The offence, under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, which is punishable under Section 24(1) of the same Act, carries a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine five times the bribe amount upon conviction.
Liffindy, attached at the Commercial Crime Investigation Department of Tuaran police station, was released on bail of RM10,000, with RM5,000 to be deposited, in a local surety.
The court fixed May 7 for case management.

The court also ordered Liffindy’s passport, if any, to be surrendered to the court and to report to the MACC office twice a month.
Liffindy was also warned not to tamper with the prosecution witnesses pending disposal of the case.

MACC Prosecuting Officer Nur Sabrina Ali appeared for the prosecution while Datuk Ram Singh and Chen Wen Jye represented Liffindy.
