BEAUFORT: The long wait by an elderly mum to have a safer home finally ended as her Hardcore Poor People’s Housing Programme (PPRT) house is now ready.

It allays worries of the mother of 11 children in Kampung Karangan, here, who had been living in her late husband’s dilapidated house for more than 40 years.

Mini Dais, 71, feels grateful to the people representative of the area for allowing her to spend the rest of her life in her new home.

She said that she could not afford to build a new house because she was only living on welfare assistance of RM200 a month while all her children are working with low income.

“I’m happy because, after almost seven years of applying for a PPRT house, I finally received the keys to this house after living for so long in the old and unsafe house.

“Aidilfitri will be more meaningful because all my children and grandchildren can be with me in this new house.

“Therefore, thanks to the Government and also to (Lumadan Assemblyman) Datuk Ruslan Muharam for this PPRT house,” she said.

Mini was one of the eight recipients of the PPRT house in Lumadan which was delivered by Ruslan, who is also Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister.

Ruslan said a total of 11 PPRT houses and 29 home improvement projects had been implemented in his constituency in 2022.

For last year, a total of five PPRT houses for RM79,000 per unit have been built and 47 houses have been renovated for RM17,000 each.

In addition, he said RM1.6 million was allocated by the State Government for the construction of 20 Rumah Mesra SMJ units in the Lumadan last year in phases.

“Not only that, the Sabah Land Development Board (SLDB) also assisted the State Government by allocating 10 units of house construction assistance for the poor in this area.

“This means that we can build almost 50 houses in phases under PPRT, SMJ and SLDB to help more poor people in every constituency in Sabah.

“This initiative clearly shows that the Federal and State Governments, especially the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor are always concerned about the needs of the people,” he said.
