Kota Kinabalu: Last Sunday (Feb 11) Lunar New Year racing action proved to be both exhilarating and rewarding.

With Royal Sabah Turf Club’s (RSTC) Kinabalu Light fighting for redemption in Singapore to the celebrations at Tambalang Racecourse, spectators spent the afternoon soaking in the festive atmosphere.

As an annual community tradition, RSTC’s staging of high pole acrobatic lion dance with dragon dance blessing is always a “must see” event in Tuaran for the racing fraternity and members of the public.

Despite very strong headwinds last Sunday, the lads from Kelab Tarian Singa San Sheng Gung KK put up a virtuoso display full of guts, strength, agility and skills.

Against the backdrop of the majestic Mount Kinabalu, racing fans and the general public were treated to a full hour of non-stop, high-spirited dragon and lion dance performances.

The highlight of the day was the running of the Fortune Bowl race. In the end, the youthful Super Come won the race rather comfortably by three lengths with Brilliant One left chasing in second.

Super Come has displayed maturity and what better day to announce his arrival in the company of elites than on lunar new year second day. Classic Head fought valiantly and deservedly came in third.

Kinabalu Light finally won in Singapore last Sunday.

Meanwhile over at the Lion City, it was  thirteenth time lucky for RSTC’s Kinabalu Light.

In search of his maiden win after twelve futile attempts, Kinabalu Light finally nailed it with a perfectly-executed run from jump, round the bend and then home run. Class 5 1600m seems suited for him, and still young and learning, it is hoped that he can continue to improve to challenge at high levels.

Today (Saturday) sees Sabah Win with a decent place chance at Race 7 Class 5 over 1200m polytrack at Kranji. Pacific General looks set to dominate given the drop from Class 4 to Class 5 competition.  Silver Dragon with some semblance of form in his last couple of runs can be pencilled in on-board.

As a continuation of the lunar new year festivities, race goers this Saturday can look forward to more lion and dragon dance performances at RSTC’s Off-Course Centre located at Tanjung Aru at 2pm.

This Sunday’s line-up for Race 4 at Tambalang Racecourse is all set to thrill.

Run over 1000m sandtrack, Piping Time is likely to lead from front and keep up his pace till the end.  Magic Opa if can keep up has a winning chance. Cooler Than Ice can lap with ease, a realistic place chance. Do not rule out a returning Battle Front. If fit and has form, Battle Front is a winning tip.
