DBKK holds first bird watching skill course
DBKK Director Junainah Abbie said the programme drew 20 participants form the Kolosunan, Babagon Toki and Binaung Baru villages and Desa Cinta Kobuni and Darau Wetland homestays.
Kota Kinabalu: City Hall (DBKK) recently organised for the first time a bird watching and environmental conservation skill course focused on the city’s suburbs.

The three-day two-night event was held at the Edu-Kolosunan Tourism Centre in Kg Kolusunan, Inanam, in collaboration with Sabah Parks.

DBKK Director Junainah Abbie said the programme drew 20 participants form the Kolosunan, Babagon Toki and Binaung Baru villages and Desa Cinta Kobuni and Darau Wetland homestays.

“In addition to briefing sessions delivered by experts from Sabah Parks, practical training sessions were also held around the village forest trails.

“Approximately 84 species of birds were found where 12 endemic and three migratory species were observed within just five hours of the practical course.

“According to bird expert Alim Biun, the area is also a buffer zone to the Crocker Range Reserve Biosphere.

“It holds great potential as a bird watching centre as Alim believes more than 100 species of birds can be found here,” Junainah said in a statement.

The ceremony was officially closed by Inanam Assemblyman, who is also State Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Assistant Minister Peto Galim.
