Kota Kinabalu: A total of 97 tonnes of garbage were collected from the waters around Pulau Gaya and Pulau Sepanggar in a three-day clean-up operation from May 6.
City Hall (DBKK) said under the “KK Cleanup Day 2.0: Pulau Gaya and Pulau Sepanggar” programme, a total of 32 tonnes of garbage were disposed on the first day.

“On the second and third day, a total of 24 tonnes and 41 tonnes of garbage were collected, respectively, exceeding the expectations and targets set,” it said in a statement.
“The main objective of organising the programme is to create social awareness among residents and entrepreneurs so they will take more serious responsibility in maintaining the cleanliness of the city environment.”
The programme received positive cooperation and involvement from residents of Kg Lok Urai, Kg Kasuapan, Kg Lobong, Kg Pulau Gaya Asli and Kg Torong Logong on Pulau Gaya, as well as Kg Pulau Sepanggar on Pulau Sepanggar.
DBKK congratulates all who have been involved in the joint effort in maintaining cleanliness of the waters.
