Kota Kinabalu: The incident involving the e-hailing rider from Sabah who was subjected to a deadly chokehold on Nov 2 while on delivery duty in Kuala Lumpur has taken a new turn.
Netizens claim the assailant’s assertion that the Sabahan victim must be a foreigner because he spoke Malay with a different accent highlighted the ignorance of some in the peninsula about Malaysians in Borneo.

They said this was despite Malaysia becoming possible 60 years ago only because Sarawak and Sabah agreed to be equal partners with Malaya and Singapore (which left in 1965).
Kota Belud Member of Parliament Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis raised the issue in the Dewan Rakyat saying the imbalance in economic development was why thousands of youngsters from Sabah migrated to Malaya.
