Stop blaming Putrajaya for Sabah’s lack of infrastructure: MP
Warisan MP Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis said Sabah should emulate Sarawak’s administration in implementing projects, especially the Pan Borneo Highway.
Kuala Lumpur: Sabahan lawmakers cannot keep blaming Putrajaya for Sabah’s antiquated roads, water and electricity infrastructure, says Warisan MP Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis.

Isnaraissah (Warisan-Kota Belud) said they should emulate Sarawak’s administration, which has outstripped Sabah in many ways.

She said this included supervising the Pan Borneo Highway stretch in the State, which is expected to be fully completed by the end of this year.

Work on the Sabah stretch of the highway is only expected to be ready in another four years.

“The weaknesses seen in Sabah are not totally ‘Malaya-made’. We cannot keep blaming Malaya,” she said, referring to the federal administration, in her debate on the 2024 Supply Bill in the Dewan Rakyat Tuesday.

“We say we want to be like Sarawak but we do not think like the Sarawakians or act like they do.” Isnaraissah urged her colleagues from Sabah to focus on their struggle and not to be taken in by greed.

“Our responsibility should be towards Sabah, not enriching ourselves.”

However, Isnaraissah brought up Putrajaya’s failure to fulfil its side of matters such as oil royalties, petroleum payments, the Territorial Sea Act 2012 and the State’s Continental Shelf rights.

“When will the federation take care of these matters?”

She said it was discouraging to note that the terms under which Sabah formed Malaysia together with Sarawak were not being fully adhered to or implemented.

Isnaraissah said Sabah is a large state and as such needs much more money for its development.

Sabah also has the right to a portion of the resources obtained from the state, she added.
