Nurses’ uniform too tight, says PAS MP

Kuantan MP Wan Razali Wan Nor asked if Putrajaya will continue following the ‘Western mould’ on nurses’ dress code.
Kuala Lumpur: A PAS MP wants changes to be made to the dress code for nurses, saying the uniform worn by nurses is too tight and not shariah-compliant.
In debating the much-awaited health white paper on public health sector reforms, Wan Razali Wan Nor (PN-Kuantan) complained that nurses’ uniforms “show their body shape”.

“I would like to ask whether we are going to keep following the Western mould on the dress code for nurses?
“Can’t it be changed so that some relaxation on the dress code can be given?” he asked in the Dewan Rakyat.
Wan Razali said Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan, and the Sultan Azlan Shah Medical Centre in Kuantan, Pahang, provided nurses with options in terms of dress code.
On another matter, he cited gambling addiction as a form of mental illness that “would increase the government’s treatment expenses”.

He praised PN-led state governments in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu for shutting down 4D gaming outlets.
He said the Perlis government had announced today that it would no longer approve licences for six gaming outlets in the state from April next year.

“Let’s pray and work together so that other states emulate PN-led states (in banning gaming outlets).
“This step is a must since it will help the health ministry reduce the number of mental health patients, and reduce government expenses,” Wan Razali claimed.
Kedah was criticised last year for its decision to close down gaming outlets, with criminologist P Sundramoorthy saying the move would lead to a boom in illegal bookmakers.
