PETALING JAYA: A double amputee has filed a suit against a private hospital for negligence which led to him being wheelchair-bound.

Isman Ibrahim, 41, an assistant engineer with the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) whose legs were amputated five years ago, filed the suit at the Shah Alam High Court today.

According to Harian Metro, Isman said he was admitted to hospital for appendicitis and needed to undergo a procedure, which he claimed was botched.

“Because of the doctor’s negligence, I lost my legs. The operation didn’t go well after the doctor tied the main vein, which caused both legs to blacken and turn gangrenous.

“The hospital moved me to another private hospital and both my legs were amputated to save my life,” he said, adding that this took place while his wife was expecting their fourth child.

Isman said this affected his emotional state. He also struggled to sleep at night and experienced a lot of pain.

His lawyer, Firhat Fikri Isman, said Isman is seeking RM55 million in compensation, including the cost for him to acquire prosthetic legs. - FMT
