No talks yet on Kuala Kubu Baharu candidate, says Anwar

BATANG KALI: Pakatan Harapan has yet to hold any discussions on its candidate for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election next month, says its chairman, Anwar Ibrahim.
“I have not discussed (the matter) with anybody,” Anwar told reporters today when asked about PH’s candidate for the May 11 by-election.

Selangor PH chief Amirudin Shari previously said a DAP candidate would be fielded to defend the seat.
The by-election for the Selangor state seat follows the death of its three-term assemblyman, DAP’s Lee Kee Hiong, on March 21 after a battle with cancer.
Lee first won the seat in 2013 after defeating MCA’s Ooi Hui Wen with a 1,702-vote majority. She defended it in 2018 with a 7,134-vote majority over MCA’s Wong Koon Mun.
During the state election last year, Lee retained the seat for DAP with a 4,119-vote majority, fending off Gerakan’s Henry Teoh.

A DAP assemblyman, who asked to remain anonymous, recently told FMT the party would need to secure at least 60% of the Indian vote if it wished to emerge victorious.
He said the Indian community was likely to tip the scales for either candidate, with Malay voters divided and Chinese votes likely to be retained by DAP.

Kuala Kubu Baharu has a mixed electorate comprising 50% Malay, 30% Chinese and 18% Indian voters.
