Fire to impact power supply requests: SESB
Yaakob added that they have reordered their stocks, but explained that the process may take time.
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) assures the public that requests for electricity supply in Sabah and Labuan will still be met, but with a slight delay.

Its Chief Executive Officer Mohd Yaakob Jaafar said the delay was due to the loss of nearly RM40 million worth of electrical cables that were destroyed in a fire at the SESB main store in Manggatal, near here, on Thursday (April 4).

The electricity cable reels were packed in wooden containers placed in an open store over 1.2 hectares when it caught fire around 12.50pm.

Over 60 firefighters from the Kota Kinabalu, Lintas and Penampang fire stations managed to bring the fire under control by 5pm, though they were unable to fully extinguish it due to a shortage of water.

“The fire had impacted SESB’s finances in meeting the increasing demand for electricity supply.

“The electrical cables were meant for distribution to our district stores,” he said.

Yaakob added that they have reordered their stocks, but explained that the process may take time.

“We hope consumers will be patient while we sort the matter out,” said Mohd Yaakob.
