SANDAKAN: Prisons Commissioner-General Datuk Nordin Muhamad said there are currently no plans to build new prisons in Sabah because the existing capacity is sufficient.
“Sabah has just constructed the prison facility that caught fire in Lahad Datu and it has already been officiated by end of 2023,” he said during the Sabah and Labuan Prisons breaking of fast ceremony held at the Sandakan Prisons’ field, here, recently.

He said Sabah had the lowest incarceration rate compared to the global average of 145 per 100,000 people.
“Compared to the global incarceration rate, Sabah has a jail rate of only 117 per 100,000 population.
