KOTA KINABALU: The State Government is mulling a People Housing Project (PPR) in Sepanggar for locals squatting in Pulau Gaya.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the government plans to turn the islands into a tourism destination.

"There are already resorts around Pulau Gaya, so we want to maintain its cleanliness and safety.
"We do not want squatter homes mushrooming..this (PPR) all depends on allocations from Federal," he told reporters on Sunday.
He said the Putatan Parliament Office, under Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, also plans to build a health clinic on the island.

Meanwhile, he shrugged off calls to ban Umno Youth Chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh from Sabah.
"We leave scrutiny up to the police. There is no move to ban him.

"But if he threatens the multicultural harmony here, we will consider it," he said.
Hajiji was visiting Pulau Gaya for a Kembara Kasih Ramadan programme. Hari Raya's assistance was given to a crowd at the SK Pulau Gaya hall.
