Sabah Maju Jaya, BIMP-EAGA Business Council Sabah to boost economy
Kota Kinabalu: In an ambitious move to bolster the local economy, the Sabah Maju Jaya Secretariat Chief Coordinator Officer, Datuk Rosmadi Datu Sulai, urged the BIMP-EAGA Business Council Sabah (BEBC-Sabah) to promote Sabah as a thriving economic front.

Rosmadi expressed his hopes for members of BEBC Sabah and other private sector players to actively attract and convince investors to consider Sabah as a viable investment destination.

“Any new ideas on how to promote Sabah’s economy is very much welcome,” he stated during a meeting with BEBC officials earlier this week.

The meeting was led by BEBC chairman Dr Raymond Alfred, who assured that the council would unconditionally support the Blue Economy and Green Economy initiatives of Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ).

“Efforts should be effective and beneficial to all. Priorities must include the energy and transportation sectors, as well as the need to boost internet services across the state,” Raymond emphasised.

Regions like Kudat, Kota Belud, Pitas, Semporna, Tawau, and Lahad Datu are identified as areas that require more attention from SMJ, especially for the Blue and Green Economy initiatives. This alignment of goals has led to BEBC Sabah deciding to partner with SMJ.

In the two-hour meeting, Raymond briefed Rosmadi on various proposed and scheduled development plans of BEBC Sabah, all of which are related to SMJ’s Blue Economy and Green Economy.

The council also discussed potential collaborations between BEBC Sabah, Sabah government, and Putrajaya for the development and progress of the country.

Raymond also informed the SMJ Secretariat on the implementation of 9 strategies based on various projects.

“We hope that the overall Blue Economy requirement, led by Sabah Maju Jaya in the Sabah, can be fulfilled, and goals can be achieved,” he said.

BEBC Sabah will conduct feasibility studies on various projects for submission to the SMJ Secretariat for possible approval and support.

These projects include research-based smart farming, renewable energy initiatives, eco-tourism projects, and green port certifications.

The partnership between Sabah Maju Jaya and BEBC Sabah signifies a promising step towards strengthening Sabah’s economic landscape and attracting more investment into the state.

With a focus on sustainable and green initiatives, this collaboration is expected to yield significant benefits for the local economy and its people.
