PKR to reshuffle states' leadership with eye on Sabah
PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad says the ‘turmoil’ in Sabah PKR is under control.
PETALING JAYA: PKR will reshuffle the leadership of its state chapters while keeping an eye on developments in Sabah amid calls for the resignation of its Sabah chief, Sangkar Rasam.

PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said party president Anwar Ibrahim had already decided on the changes to be made in the Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Penang, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor chapters.

The rest will be done soon, he said.

“I think the issue in Sabah PKR is under control. The party president is in the process of reshuffling the state leaderships,” he told reporters after an event here.

PKR central leadership council member Yahya Mat Sahri previously said Anwar would resolve the crisis in Sabah PKR after Hari Raya, when he makes a trip to the state for the national-level Aidilfitri open house on April 20.

The Borneo Post reported that Anwar is expected to decide between retaining Sangkar as Sabah PKR chief or opting for deputy higher education minister Mustapha Sakmud, who has offered to lead the party’s campaign in the next state election.

Sangkar has refused to step down despite calls from the majority of Sabah PKR.

On March 17, Kota Marudu PKR division chief Sazalye Donol said 15 out of 26 Sabah division chiefs had called for Sangkar to step down as state chairman, walking out of a state leadership meeting after expressing their unhappiness with his leadership.

Sangkar however dismissed Sazalye’s claim that he was not leading the state chapter effectively and had failed to organise programmes to strengthen it, calling the allegations “groundless accusations”.
