TAWAU: A paperless man’s attempt to smuggle 500.53 grammes of syabu hidden in a pink thermos flask failed after being apprehended by police on March 29.
The 29-year-old was arrested at 3.30pm and was believed to be travelling to Indonesia via the Old CIQ Jetty.

Tawau District Police Chief CP Jasmin Hussin said the unemployed man claimed he was promised money once the goods arrived.
“Based on intelligence information, our team inspected the man who was on his way to Sungai Aji Kuning via the Old CIQ Jetty.
The team examined his belongings, including a thermos flask kept inside the man’s handheld basket.
“Further inspection on the thermos flask led to the discovery of a transparent plastic packet containing suspected syabu,” he said.

He said that initial investigations revealed that the drugs came from outside Tawau and were supposed to be taken to a neighbouring country with a promised sum of money in foreign currency upon arrival.
He said police are currently investigating the case, including tracing those involved in the syndicate.
