NIBONG TEBAL: Overcrowded schools are to get classrooms in cabins as a short-term solution to ease congestion, says education minister Fadhlina Sidek.

She said another short-term solution was to disperse pupils from overcrowded schools so that the number of pupils could be controlled to provide an atmosphere conducive to learning.

Schools in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur are among the states with a high density of students, she said.

Some schools have been identified for the use of cabins “but it is only a short-term approach; for the long term, they should attend lessons in school buildings which are conducive to learning”, she said.

Fadhlina said the construction of new schools would take time. “In the last budget, 26 new schools were approved and through it we hope to reduce the density of students in the schools, and at the same time, our children will be able to learn in a comfortable environment.”

The minister was speaking after a ministry Ramadan event held at the Sungai Acheh secondary school here. Fadhlina is MP for Nibong Tebal.
