PENAMPANG: The people of Ulu Papar here celebrated World River/Water Day last Friday to raise awareness and appreciate the need for water as an important element in life.
The festival that is celebrated every March 22 all over the world was however a bit “gloomy” in Sabah due to the lack of water due to the hot and dry season.

Nevertheless, the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) in Ulu Papar Penampang jointly organised the celebration which also emphasises the importance of preserving and maintaining the natural condition of the Sungai Papar in the Crocker Range Biosphere Reserve area.
This year’s celebration, themed “Water for Peace” was held to foster the spirit of unity among the residents of Ulu Papar and Hilir Papar so that they are always aware that water is important for life and peace.
