Higher RM67 million for Sabah students
“I hope our students will seize the opportunity from the various initiatives provided by the State Government,” Hajiji said.
GEORGE TOWN: A total of RM67.4 million has been allocated to the Yayasan Sabah Group this year to enable more Sabah children to continue their studies at home and abroad, said Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor.

The amount is more than last year’s RM53.8 million, demonstrating the commitment of the State Government in improving the quality of life and education of people in the state.

“The education development agenda in Sabah is always given priority by the State Government; therefore, various aid initiatives are empowered, including support for children in B40 families who successfully continue their studies at higher education institutions.

“Among the initiatives are the IPT Registration Cash Assistance (BUDI) and Special Examination Cash Assistance (Bakti). Additionally, the Sabah State Government Scholarship has seen an increase in the scholarship fund from RM50 million to RM100 million, aimed at easing the financial burden of female students pursuing higher education.

“We provide all this for the sake of Sabah’s children and for the progress and excellence of the education sector towards forming excellent human capital.

“I hope our students will seize the opportunity from the various initiatives provided by the State Government,” Hajiji said in conjunction with the Breaking the Fast Ceremony for Students of Institutions of Higher Education in the Peninsula at the Setia Spice Convention Centre, Penang, on Monday.

He said from 1967 to 2023, the Sabah Foundation Group has provided various assistance through scholarships, bursaries, and higher education loans.

“A total of 124,141 Sabah students pursuing various disciplines either at institutions of higher learning in the country or abroad have received assistance, with an expenditure of RM952.2 million,” Hajiji said.

In the meantime, he also reminded students to enhance their knowledge in various aspects that can contribute to the development of the state of Sabah in the future.

He said students are the future leaders of the state and country. Upon graduation, Sabah and the country require the participation and involvement of all students in advancing the state and the nation towards greater progress.

“This is because the students will all constitute a vital group as well as a source of human capital for the future, continuing the legacy of the state’s development.

That is why, in the Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan, the development of human capital is one of the main thrusts that is given attention,” Hajiji said.

He said the State Government would continue to strengthen existing initiatives to ensure that the children of Sabah receive a high-quality education, enabling them to become versatile and competitive leaders.

The program was attended by approximately 1,400 students studying at higher education institutions in the northern region of the Peninsula.

Also present were the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Datuk Dr. Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif; Sabah Foundation Director, Datuk Ghulam Haidar Khan Bahadar; and Executive Chairman of Innoprise Corporation Sdn Bhd (ICSB), Datuk Jasnih Daya.
