With higher Passenger Service Charge, airports must also shine: Chamber
LABUAN: The Labuan Chinese Chamber of Commerce says that with the increased Passenger Service Charge (PSC) effective June 1 will unlikely reduce air travel traffic “significantly as the higher rate should be accompanied by better airport facilities and services regardless of international or domestic departures”.

Chamber Chairman Datuk Wong Kii Yii who said this added “with the bigger revenue operators would rake there should be little excuses if facilities were not up to the mark and convey a good first impression to visitors.”

He noted there should be minimum or no complaints about air-conditioning failures, sub-standard toilets upkeep and image-bashing seats at sight or digital flight information screen not working.

On seats, Wong showed a picture of a row of chairs (pic) at Labuan Airport which was not fit to be used as it appeared dirty and stained.

Wong said he felt embarrassed when he sent off friends and they commented negatively of the airport.

The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) will with effect from June increase the passenger service charge on all international departures from Terminal 1 of the KLIA and from KLIA Terminal 2 and all other airports.

The new rate is RM 73 and RM50 depending on the airport used.

The is regardless of whether the passenger is travelling within or beyond Asean.

The present PSC rate is RM35.00.The domestic charge rate remained RM35.00.
