Kota Kinabalu: Tabs Safa Bandaraya trainees are expected to take part in more tournaments this year.

Tabs Safa Bandaraya deputy chairman Lokman Sunggim said the decision is in line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sabah FC and Tabs Safa Bandaraya in a joint effort to develop football in the State.

“Our players under the 10, 12, 14,16 and 17 age categories are being monitored by Sabah FC based on the agreement we have signed with them.

“Therefore, we will ensure that the players under our programme are always given exposure through real tournaments and not merely undergoing weekend training sessions on the field only,” he said.

He also said their programme is on the right track with the Tabs Mix 9 and Mix 8 teams emerging champions in the Under-10 and Under-8 categories respectively in the Ramadan Cup Futsal Championship held at the Yayasan Sabah Futsal Court recently.

One of their players Adam Rayqal was also named best goalkeeper in the Under-10 category in the tournament organised by Super Saga FA.

Lokman, who congratulated the players and the coaching team led by Suryadi Sarman, also praised the parents for their continued support in the team’s recent success since the start of the year following their  wins at the Sunquick and Fatos Sport Cup football tournament in Penampang and the BFC Cup  football tournament in Kota Marudu.

“The players were able to produce their best due to the commitment and seriousness of the coach in addition to the good cooperation from the parents.

“The role of the parents and guidance from the coaches is very important in the development of the  children’s talents in football,” he added.

Meanwhile, Tabs Safa Bandaraya’s football development programme is currently taking a break  during the month of Ramadan.

Lokam said the training sessions would only resume after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration later.

He called on parents who have any questions to contact the secretariat through Suzana Bibiyantie at 016-3133119 or Nur Atiqah at 016-8344480.
