Kota Kinabalu: The PacifiCity Project Purchasers Welfare Association (P3WA) will seek the State Government’s help to address their predicaments regarding the delayed PacifiCity project.

One of the P3WA members, Dato’ Seri Winston Liaw, stated that they will write to the State Government seeking assistance following a meeting with Nominated Assemblyman Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee.

The former Chief Minister had invited P3WA committee members to discuss the PacifiCity project at his Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) headquarters in Likas.

“In the discussion, we realised that Yong has successfully handled several abandoned projects in Sabah under his supervision,” said Liaw.

After listening to Yong’s advice, P3WA committee members agreed to draft a proposal letter to Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.

“The proposed letter will be submitted to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun for approval,” he added.

Based on Yong’s previous experiences, the proposal is deemed viable and worthy of the State Government’s attention.

According to Liaw, the PacifiCity project buyers consist of existing and retired civil servants,  and foreign investors from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, and other countries.

P3WA expressed hope that with Yong’s assistance, the problems faced by the project can be resolved soon.

To salvage the project, Liaw emphasised the necessity of obtaining an official declaration by government authorities that PacifiCity is an abandoned project. Only then can the project be restarted based on the proposed programme.

“We also urge the Sabah Development Bank to fully support our proposals so that all buyers can obtain the occupation certificate in due course,” he added.

Initially slated for completion in 2018, the PacifiCity project has been delayed until now.
