SAA organises e-learning athletics coaching course

BEAUFORT: The Sabah Athletics Association (SAA) recently organised a World Athletic Level 1 Coaching Course which saw a total of 24 participants.
The e-learning course, which ran from February 1 to 28, allowed participants to learn online, complete 30 modules and pass multiple tests before attending face-to-face classes.

“Participants who completed the online course went on to take the face-to-face course which was held at the Beaufort Sports Complex from March 4 to 8,” said SAA Coaching Committee Chairman Dr Raymie A Bakar.
He said the course is limited to 24 participants, with 95 per cent of them being teachers from Sabah’s districts.
“The course was conducted by the Beaufort Athletics Association who invited two experienced speakers, namely Senior World Athletics Lecturer/Course Director and World Athletics Lecturer (Brunei Darussalam) Raup Tasim who acted as the guide throughout the course,” he said.
He said the course intends to train more young coaches who are dynamic and capable of discovering athletic talent, particularly at the grassroots level in Sabah, and promoting them to the next level.

He said that all of the participants passed the practical and theory assessments, but only 11 qualified for Level 2.
“We are grateful to the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ Beaufort Office and the Beaufort Sports Complex management for the cooperation and providing the venue for the course,” he said.

The closing ceremony was officiated by SAA Deputy President Henry Kenneth Lawrence.
Lawrence hoped the endeavour would continue and serve as a vessel for sustaining athletics’ dignity in Sabah and Malaysia as a whole.
Present were the Ministry’s Beaufort Lower-Interior Officer Mohd Ifnuh Sumbogo and Beaufort Sports Complex Manager Linus Nicholas.
