Kuala Lumpur: The six “rogue” Bersatu MPs and Selangor assemblyman Abdul Rashid Asari were not invited to the Perikatan Nasional elected representatives’ convention held today.

Contacted by FMT, Labuan MP Suhaili Abdul Rahman confirmed that they did not receive any invitation for the event.

The convention was organised for PN elected representatives to deliberate on strategies aimed at securing and maintaining the support of the public.

The six Bersatu MPs who pledged support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim are Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).

They said they did so to obtain development allocations for their constituencies.

Bersatu information chief Razali Idris said there was no point in inviting them and Rashid because the party had already deemed those seats as “vacant”.

“We’ve already considered those seven seats as ‘vacant’. We are just waiting for the by-election date, so what’s the point in inviting them?” he said.

Last week, Bersatu voted to amend its constitution to specify that any MP or assemblyman will have their membership automatically stripped if they support any other party or policy not aligned with Bersatu’s position.

The amendment is subject to approval by the Registrar of Societies.

A total of 220 PN elected representatives, comprising both MPs and assemblymen, are attending the convention this weekend.

Aside from the six absent MPs and one assemblyman, 65 others were absent because of official duties abroad, family matters, or health reasons.
