SANDAKAN: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDN) branch here is implementing enforcement and monitoring activities on the prices of clothing and school supplies ahead of  school session that will begin on March 11.

KPDN Chief Enforcement Officer, Azdy Zukkry John, said while KPDN does not control the prices of clothing and school supplies, continuous monitoring and inspection under enforced laws would persist.

He said after inspections, a total of 10 Notices of Confirmation of Goods Information were issued under Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act (AKHAP) 2011 to traders.

These notices aim to obtain preliminary information on whether there have been any price increases for the inspected goods.

“Based on statistics as of March 4, a total of 10 premises were inspected in the district involving 13 types of clothing and school shoes.

“This action is also aimed at detecting any increase in the percentage of profit for the sale of the goods involved, in addition to identifying any unreasonable profit-taking activities.

“As of today, KPDN has not received any complaints regarding the increase in the price of school uniforms and stationery,” he said after visiting a wholesaler of school supplies.

Azdy said KPDN would take stern  action against any party found to be unreasonably profiting in the determination of the sale price of goods, including clothing and school supplies.

Therefore, KPDN advises consumers to always be smart when shopping, including when buying clothes and school supplies, by comparing prices.

KPDN welcomes any information and complaints related to the misconduct of traders.

Users can submit complaints through official complaint channels including the following: WhatsApp 019 279 4317/019 848 8000, Complaint Portal:

http://eaduan.kpdn.gov.my, Call Centre 1 800 886 800, or through the Ez ADU application KPDN.
