PETALING JAYA: Police have completed their probe into PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang over a statement he issued last month, says Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain.

He said the investigation paper has been submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers, Harian Metro reported.

Razarudin said Hadi was being investigated for his remarks under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998.

Last Tuesday, Bukit Aman investigators questioned Hadi at the PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur over his remarks in a statement titled “The importance of upholding Islam”, issued on Feb 20.

His remarks on the monarchy, following a Federal Court decision to strike down several provisions in a Kelantan shariah criminal enactment, courted the wrath of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor, as they were seen as a response to the sultan’s earlier speech on Feb 15 telling all parties to respect the apex court’s ruling.

Sultan Sharafuddin rebuked Hadi, saying his remarks were “highly inappropriate and uncultured” and could lead to division within the Muslim community.
