Kota Kinabalu: Six pangolins from Penampang, Tuaran and Kota Kinabalu were surrendered to the State Wildlife Department’s Wildlife Rescue Unit (WRU) last month.

The WRU said majority of the endangered species were found in residences, while some were encountered when crossing roadways and one was a victim of a dog attack.

Luckily, most of the rescued anteaters showed no indications of discomfort or major physical injuries, except for one saved at Kampung Kolopis, Penampang, whose tail was severely injured as a result of a dog bite.

“These shy-nature mammals were then handed over to the Lok Kawi Wildlife Park clinic to undergo further examination and treatment by experts.

“After days of medical care, two male pangolins weighing 6.5kg and 8kg were safely returned home.

“The others will soon follow once the vet deems that they are healthy,” the WRU said on Facebook.

The WRU lauded the responsible individuals for contacting them and saving the pangolins.

It said the individuals excellently displayed how a responsible person would act when encountering wildlife.
