PETALING JAYA: Labuan MP Suhaili Abdul Rahman says he is willing to vacate his seat should the amendment to Bersatu’s constitution on Saturday forbid him from supporting the prime minister.

Speaking to FMT, Suhaili said he would however not budge from his stand to support Anwar Ibrahim.

He had announced his stand last October after considering the problems Labuan’s people were facing with the high cost of living and with water and electricity supplies.

“Whatever amendment is made to Bersatu’s constitution on March 2, I will not budge and will continue to support Anwar, even if I have to vacate my seat,” he said.

Bersatu will be having a special general assembly on Saturday to amend the party’s constitution after six of its MPs declared their support for Anwar’s administration.

The amendments to Article 10 in the constitution seek to prevent the recurrence of such incidents and to prepare for by-elections should any of the MPs’ seats be vacated.

Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal and Gua Musang MP Azizi Abu Naim have also declared their readiness to vacate their seats and return the mandate to the people.

Besides Suhaili, Syed Hussin and Azizi, the other Bersatu MPs who support Anwar are Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), and Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar).

Suhaili also took aim at Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan, who claimed in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday that there were elements of bribery in attempts to gain MPs’ support for Anwar.

He said the RM1.7 million Wan Saiful was allegedly offered was not a bribe, because it was to be allocated to his constituency.

“There were no elements of bribery in our declarations of support for Anwar.

“Wan Saiful’s statement is slanderous and is maliciously intended to undermine the government,” he said.
