Brunei Sabah Food Festival plan

Kota Kinabalu: The Brunei Sabah Community Association (PMBS) is planning to hold a Brunei Sabah Community Food Festival (FEMMBES) as a continuation of the Baurung-Urung Carnival held for two consecutive years now.

PMBS President Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Datuk Haji Mohd Arif said while presiding over a meeting at Wisma Muis.

Mohd Arifin who is also the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation said that PMBS has planned several program for the year 2024.

“Congratulations to all PMBS committee members for their success in organising various activities throughout the past year especially to Baurung-Urung Carnival 2023 Chairman Datuk Sapdin Ibrahim for attracting thousands from within and abroad last year,” he said.

The carnival also provides opportunities for Brunei entrepreneurs market their products.

“All PMBS branches in the state must continue to conduct activities as being done by the Tg Aru, Kota Kinabalu and Putatan branches.

At the meeting, several more new branches were agreed to be established.

Meanwhile FEMMBES chaired by PMBS Vice President III, Datuk Masnah Matsalleh and is expected to be held on Sept 28-29 lists various activities in the two-day carnival.

He said FEMMBES would be held at Wisma Wanita Sabah hall while the committee would hold future meetings to detail the events of the inaugural festival.

He said it was a cultural event that also involves Bruneian youths to remind them of the culture they would they continue to inherit.

“Something new that will be held in this festival is the badondang event, a traditional Brunei event, held at Brunei community weddings, however this kind of event is rarely held,” he said.

A poem exchange event in Brunei dialect is also planned to be held in this festival while the highlight event is of course the Manumpah Ambuyat and the Traditional Cakes and Sweets of the Brunei community.

To liven up the festival celebration, stalls selling traditional Bruneian food will also be available.

Meanwhile, PMBS Vice President II, Datuk Ahmadshah Talip will preside the association’s Hari Raya celebration for this year.

Also present in the meeting besides Datuk Masnah, Datuk Ahmadshah is Deputy President, Datuk Pengiran Saifuddin Tahir, Vice President I, Pengiran Japar Pengiran Osman, Secretary General, Norhasan Ismail, Treasurer General, Datuk Buthamam Mahmun, Head of Information, Mohd Amin Muin and committee members.
