Vibrant CNY celebrations in Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan
KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof today attended the Chinese New Year open house hosted by the Sarawak government at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching.

More than 5,000 guests from all walks of life also attended the open house from 9 am to 3 pm.

Sarawak Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi as well as National Unity Minister Datuk Seri Aaron Ago Dagang were among the guests.

Aaron said the unique Malaysian culture of celebrating all festivals together had strengthened the relationships among the races.

 "This shows that we recognise and respect the diversity of our cultures and races as all our festivals are celebrated together, regardless of skin colour," he said.

In SABAH, almost 10,000 guests attended the state-level Chinese New Year open house at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here.

Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and his wife Toh Puan Norlidah RM Jasni were welcomed upon arrival at 11 am by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and his wife Datin Seri Juliah Salag.

The highlight of the open house was the tossing and mixing of the ‘yee sang’ (raw fish salad) by Hajiji, Juhar and other dignitaries.

 In LABUAN, its MP Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman, together with local residents attended several open houses hosted by prominent businessmen and industry leaders.

 The atmosphere was vibrant with traditional decorations adorning the venues, and the lion dance performances.
