SANDAKAN: ‘Gum-Gum’, the adventurous Sabah pygmy elephant that travelled alone to suburban area of Mile 16 here, was officially translocated to its habitat, last Saturday.
The 7ft tall mammal, weighing more than a tonne, was previously reported wandering around at several palm estates before finally being captured by Sandakan Wildlife Department along with Wildlife Rescue Unit.

The 10-year-old pygmy was named ‘Gum-Gum’ as it was caught at the Gum-Gum area on the morning of Feb 1.
According to Sandakan Wildlife Officer, Hussien Muin, they were alerted on the elephant since October 2023, where Gum-Gum was first seen in an estate.
