Kota Kinabalu: A real estate agent was charged in the Magistrate’s Court, Friday, with threatening and assaulting two secondary teachers.

Daniel Dean Wong Kok Ching pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offences at 9am on Jan 29, this year at the Kota Kinabalu High School’s basketball court.

On the first count, the 49-year-old was charged with threatening one Fong Chee Hau under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine, or both, on conviction.

On the second count, Wong was charged with causing hurt to one Bestah @ Joewellster Teo Guan Chin under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which is liable to jail of up to one year or a maximum fine of RM2,000, or with both, upon conviction.

The court scheduled March 7 for Wong’s pre-trial case management and offered him bail at RM3,000 with two sureties.

The prosecution was led by State Persecution Director Nahra Dollah, Deputy Public Persecutors Azreen Yas Mohammad Rami and Rustam Sanip.

Counsel Lim Chun Yuan and Jo Anne Jameson represented Wong.

Nahra offered bail of RM5,000 for both cases with two local sureties.

Lim, however, asked the bail amount to be reduced saying, among others, that the bail amount was only to secure his attendance and not to penalise him.

He also said the accused has a child and he needs to look after his mother as well as his family.

The accused’s son was also present with his family.

The video of the accused and his son confronting the school teachers after the latter was caught smoking in the school toilet went viral on social media on Jan 29.

In another viral clip, the student was seen to have confronted the teachers.

The 17-year-old was previously expelled from school, but allowed to return to take his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations.

However, he was caught smoking which led to the incident and the arrest of the accused. The son was not arrested.
