Pirate taxi driver denies assaulting man
The charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to one year or fine of up to RM2,000 or both, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 54-year-old pirate taxi driver was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here with assaulting a man last month.

Isah Ujal, an IMM13 holder, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to hurting Norarif Zulkifli, 28, on April 8, between 3am and 4.50am near Taman Putra Mas, Manggatal.

The charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to one year or fine of up to RM2,000 or both, on conviction.

The court set May 23 for case management and ordered the accused to be remanded further.

In another case, a 32-year-old man claimed trial to disposing of a stolen handphone.

E-hailing car driver Mohd Iskandar Norhisham was accused of disposing of the stolen gadget belonging to Md Khairi Rizuan on April 13, this year, at 3pm, at a premises in Putatan.

The charge is framed under Section 414 of the Penal Code.

The court fixed May 23 for case management and released the accused on a bail of RM2,000 in two sureties.

Earlier, the prosecution proposed bail at RM3,000 in two sureties while duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong, representing Iskandar, requested a lower bail amount as he is married and has four children and works as an e-haling car driver.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Shafeerah Mad Iskim prosecuted.
