Student’s father arrested for threatening teacher

Kota Kinabalu: A father was arrested after threatening a teacher from barring his son who was earlier caught smoking from entering the SPM examination hall at a school in Kepayan Ridge here, Tuesday.
The 9am incident involving the 49-year-old man went viral on social media. It was learnt that the teacher caught the student smoking in the toilet.

However, the 17-year-old student contacted his father who then came to the school and attacked the teacher.
“The situation was tense as the man was in an aggressive state because he claimed the teacher had hit his son.
“The teacher explained what happened but the man refused to accept it and began pushing and choking him until he almost fell, all the while yelling obscenities on school grounds,” the source said.
The situation was defused with the help of a few teachers and security guards.

Sabah Education Department Director, Datuk Raisin Saidin, said the student was allowed to take the SPM even though expelled from school after two warnings on Dec. 15 last year.

“SPM candidates must comply with the school rules in addition to maintaining good behaviour so as not to disturb the course of the examination.
“The Education Department is always committed in ensuring public examinations run smoothly and that all SPM candidates are calm and comfortable when answering exam questions,” he said.
