PBRS urges help for Sipitang family living miserable life

SIPITANG: Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) Division Chief Pius Ganang urged the government to help a family living a miserable life in a hut at Kg Banban 21Km.

Pius claimed that Setiawan Daud, 50, and his family have been living in such poor conditions since the latter left his employment at Sabah Forest Industries Sdn Bhd (SFI).

Setiawan is said to have served as the Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) Chairman for Kg Mendulong and Banban for 26 months during the Parti Warisan administration.

For the past two years, the family has lived in a hut without electricity or running water.

“How to live in such dire condition and what is the fate of their children in terms of schooling,” said Pius.

Setiawan’s 20-year-old son, Senndy, had to stop his studies at the Pusat Giat Mara due to financial constraints after SFI ceased operations.

Senddy and his 19-year-old brother are currently helping their father doing odd jobs at the village.

Setiawan and his family had previously stayed at the SFI quarters with a monthly income of RM1,000. They had to leave the quarters after the SFI closed almost two years ago.

They have since lived in a hut made of recyclables while having to endure cold nights especially when it rains or when there is strong wind.

Pius hoped the Social Welfare Department would look into the family’s situation and that the government will consider building them a house under the People Housing Project (PPRT) initiative.

He also hoped Sindumin Assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusoff Yaacob and Sipitang Member of Parliament Datuk Matbali Musah could assist the family.
