Kota Kinabalu: The opposition should stop dirty tactics to undermine the GRS-PH State Government, said Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Supreme Council member Datuk John Ambrose.

Ambrose, who is also Gagasan Rakyat Special Tasks Committee Chairman, said he was disturbed by the non-stop attacks on Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, especially on social media.

“All these attacks were falsehoods to deceive the rakyat that the State Government was a failure,” he said in a statement, Wednesday.

Ambrose said the opposition’s attempt to slander the Chief Minister’s eldest son, Mohd Reza by alleging the latter’s involvement in the Sabah drug cartel that was crippled last December was “stooping to the lowest level.”

“The opposition should not hide behind the keyboards to manufacture lies against Hajiji,” he said.

Ambrose hoped the police or MCMC would be able to identify the culprits behind the post defaming Mohd Reza.

“I believe that the opposition is impatient that they are not in the State Government. After failing to oust Hajiji in a political coup about a year ago, they are resorting to all sorts of dirty tactics to damage the reputation of the State Government and Hajiji, including his family members,” he said.

Ambrose said while Hajiji and his supporters were in the opposition during Warisan’s administration, “we did not resort to such tactics.”

“The people are smart enough to know that the opposition is bitter that Hajiji has performed well in governing the State after taking over as Chief Minister and is trying all ways and means to tarnish his image.

“Hajiji has the support of the people as they trust his style of administration. No amount of slanders would make him lose the support. But having said that, the opposition should leave his family members alone,” he said.

Ambrose said when the opposition was in power, they were very sensitive to criticisms.

“However, when they are no longer in power, they started to employ all tactics under the sun to slander Hajiji and his GRS-PH State Government,” he said, adding the opposition should put a stop to such tactic.

“Be respected even though you are in the opposition and give constructive criticisms instead of relying on slanders,” he said.
