Kota Kinabalu: The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) and City Hall (DBKK) will jointly host this year’s Chinese New Year Carnival at Dataran Deasoka, Gaya Street.

Announcing this, FCAS President Tan Sri T.C. Goh said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor would launch the carnival on Feb 3 (Saturday).

Goh, who is also the President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong), said this was agreed upon during a meeting held Wednesday between the FCAS leadership and Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah.

He said the FCAS-led organising committee has lined up various exciting programmes and activities, including lion and dragon dance performances, entertainment shows, fireworks display and Spring Festival decorations during the launch.

As for the “Lido Chinese New Year Market”, it will take place from Feb 4-8 at Lido Square.

“The market will host 100 stalls selling a wide range of Chinese New Year goods, handicrafts, decorative items and special Chinese delicacies.

“There will also be captivating cultural performances featuring talented local singers, dancers and lion and dragon dance troupes,” he said.

Also present were FCAS Deputy President Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen, its Religious and Customs Affairs Bureau Chief Ng Young Wah, Vice President cum Youth Chief Chang Jeng Yung, Secretary-general Datuk Yong Soo Pin and Treasurer-General Chen Ee Sheng, among others.

Goh, who is also the President of the Federation of Sabah and Labuan Hokkien Associations (FSLHA), reiterated his confidence on Dr Sabin’s leadership towards bringing Kota Kinabalu City to greater heights, citing his vast experience and outstanding contributions in the public sector.

On behalf of DBKK, Dr Sabin expressed gratitude to Goh and FCAS for their years of active cooperation and robust support in bridging the Government and the people, as well as their collaboration in organising large-scale Chinese New Year events.

He especially acknowledged FCAS’s positive role in building a united and harmonious society.

On the Chinese New Year Carnival, the Mayor said the City Hall would assign the “DBKK Choir” to participate and present Chinese New Year songs.
