Travellers see red over Labuan ferry snafu

LABUAN: Juta Bonus Sdn Bhd, one of Labuan’s two ferry operators serving the Labuan-Menumbok-Labuan route, halted its operations yesterday, throwing the plans of Christmas and year-end school holiday travellers into disarray.

A notice issued on Facebook yesterday by the operator’s ticketing management company, Binabalu Sdn Bhd, cited unforeseen technical issues affecting its two ferries – Galaxy and Blue Ocean – as the reason for the abrupt cessation of services.

It did not state when the two ferries would resume operations.

The situation at the Menumbok ferry terminal was tense and chaotic as frustration ran high, and social media saw anger from hundreds of stranded travellers trying to get refunds or reschedule their trips.

The ticketing management company urged affected passengers to go to the counter for a refund, or submit a photograph of their ticket as proof for an online refund via WhatsApp at 016-818 9040.

With the temporary suspension of Galaxy and Blue Ocean, only four ferries – Kimanis 1, Putrajaya 1, Goodwill Star and Joystar – are currently in service. These four ferries are operated by Labuan Mainland Link Sdn Bhd.
