PAS won’t join unity govt, says party veep
PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad said Umno is no longer able to woo the Malays.
PETALING JAYA: PAS has shut the door to joining the unity government, saying that Anwar Ibrahim’s administration lacks the “wow” factor.

Its vice-president, Idris Ahmad, said like many governments before this, the current administration has failed to implement promised reforms.

“This government is also no longer capable of gaining the support of the Malays.

“Umno does not seem to be able to woo the Malays and is perceived to be submissive to DAP,” he said in a statement.

Idris was responding to his Amanah counterpart, Adly Zahari, who yesterday said his party did not see PAS as an enemy.

Adly said Amanah would not object if the Islamic party wanted to be part of the unity government, but the latter would need to stop “manipulating” 3R (race, religion and royalty) related issues for political purposes.

Idris went on to say that Amanah brought no value to Anwar, adding that only PAS and the opposition coalition, Perikatan Nasional, could protect the Malays.

“All I can say is thank you for recognising PAS’s quality, but we would never join a government that is on the verge of collapsing.”

Earlier today, FMT reported PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin as saying that Amanah should dump DAP if it was serious about collaborating with the Islamic party.

Meanwhile, Wanita PAS chief Nuridah Salleh said the party would have no issue joining forces with Amanah if it benefitted “race, religion and the country” as long as the alliance did not go against its principles.
