KENINGAU: The Crocker Range Festival can restore the prestige of the tourism industry as well as highlight the culture of various tribes in the district, said State Assistant Minister of Works, Datuk Robert Tawik.

Ethnic culture has the potential to become a tourism product that can be highlighted to foreign tourists.

Therefore, he said, the uniqueness of the ethnic customs of various tribes must continue to be defended.

“It is a big challenge for all of us in the face of current technological progress to continue to preserve, maintain and nourish the interest of the community so that they strongly appreciate local products, especially cultural programmes as well as art and ethnic heritage,” he said when officiating at The Crocker Range Rhythm of Symphony 2023 at Dataran Keningau here.

Robert said the development of the tourism industry based on digital technology is also encouraged due to the advancement of technology that can strengthen the network between industries as well as pave the way for new innovative sub-sectors that will create business and job opportunities.

The Bingkor Assemblyman also praised the efforts of the Keningau District Office and Keningau Tourism and Culture Association for being committed to promoting the tourism industry and products in the district.

“Of course, this has a very encouraging impact on all parties, whether entrepreneurs or lovers of the tourism industry,” he stressed.

He also wants more programmes such as The Crocker Range Festival to build bridges of unity, friendship, harmony and mutual respect among people of different races here.

He said through the booth exhibition, which was participated by some 10 ethnic associations including Sabah Dusun Kujau Association, Keningau Liwan Dusun Association, Sabah Gana Association, Sabah Keningau Bugis Community Association, Sabah Murut Nabai Organisation, it is a good way to introduce their cultures.

Robert also hoped that craft entrepreneurs and tourism operators benefit from the organisation of festival.

Also present were District Officer, Peter Jonu Moinjil, Executive Officer of the Keningau District Council, Mohd Fawzi Abdul Kadir and the Chairman of the Keningau Tourism and Culture Association, Rafie Robert.
