Trio held for illegal fishing, boat seized

KUDAT: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) of the Kudat Zone arrested three Filipinos along with a boat suspected of out illegal fishing activities in waters less than three nautical miles from land Friday.
Kudat Maritime Zone Director, Commander Maurice Grenville Abeyeratne, said the three suspect aged 19 and 30, with the boat were successfully detected at approximately 1am at 1.96 nautical miles east of the Marina estuary, here by Kudat Maritime Zone patrolling around the waters.
ADVERTISEMENT Maurice said, when detected, members of the Kudat Maritime Zone found that the boat was pulling a net less than three nautical miles from the nearest land.
“Inspection found three individuals, including the skipper who operated the boat were in the boat.
“Further inspection also found that all of them were carrying dubious identification documents and did not have a fishing licence.
“The suspects along with the boat were brought to the jetty for further investigation,” he said.

The case was investigated under the Fisheries Act 1985 for not having a Fishing licence and pulling nets less than three nautical miles from land and the Immigration Act 1959/1963 due to dubious identification documents.
