Stateless athletes bring Wushu gold to Labuan

SARIKEI: Two stateless Wushu athletes representing Labuan won the gold medal in the National Invitational Wushu Championships 2023 at Sarikei, Sarawak on 20th October.
The athletes were 17-year-old Musimar Abdullah and 16-year-old Nur Fatimah Abdullah who won in the 52kg and 45kg categories for male and female, respectively.

Labuan sent a team of three Wushu athletes for the competition including 20-year-old Afiq Aizuddin Jamudin who grabbed a silver in the male 70kg category.
The competition was organized by Kelab Wushu Jelutong Sarikei with support from the Youth and Sports Department of Sarikei and sanctioned by the Ministry of Education, Wushu Federation of Sarawak and Wushu Federation of Malaysia.
“It was the first time we brought stateless athletes to compete in Sarawak. It was very challenging, but I had to break the barriers and kept my promise,” said the team manager Tan Chee Haw.
Meanwhile, team coach Kamarul Iqhwan Asiran said participating in the event had been a good experience for the team.
