Kota Kinabalu: More than 800 athletes from 20 Public Universities (UA) are participating in the Majlis Sukan Universiti Malaysia (Masum) for seven days.

Organised by the Higher Education Ministry (KPT), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) is playing host.

Deputy Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said by continuously developing athletes in public universities, we can produce top athletes.

Seven types of sports will see contests namely taekwondo, table tennis, beach volleyball, petanque, martial arts, chess, and archery.

Also present at the event was UMS Vice Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr. Kasim Md. Mansur.

This Masum will mark the First Phase for this year and the Second Phase is expected to take place at the University of Malaya (UM) from May 5-11.
