Leopold Alfonso then extended their lead in the 44th minute with a well placed shot from outside the box.
Despite their dominance, they were unable to further extend their lead and it proved costly as their opponents mounted a late comeback that resulted in two goals in the space of six minutes.
Muhd Faizal Hafiq Omar first reduced the deficit in the 82nd minute before Muhd Amirul Nizam Muhd Azmi found the equaliser three minutes from time.
With the scoreline and away goal rule, KJFC will need to win or to draw with more than two goals in the return leg on August 27 in order for them to advance to the semi-final stage.
