KENINGAU: Minister of Youth and Sports, Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin said the concept of independence needs to be spread to the grassroots, particularly among students and villagers, so that they may understand how important it is.

He said that in order for independence to remain fruitful and fresh in their souls, people also needed to be taught the value of it.

He told reporters after launching the Kembara Merdeka Keluarga Malaysia (KMKM) convoy at the town plaza, “Today I noticed many school students attending this event and this also demonstrates that they have the spirit to celebrate our country’s Independence Day.”

Ellron, who is also Sook State Assemblyman, described the involvement of school students in this month of Independence as very appropriate and important to allow them to commemorate and appreciate the true meaning of independence in addition to being able to instil the spirit of love and affection for the country.

He also requested that the villagers also play the same role because as a result of independence the atmosphere of the people’s life is always harmonious and prosperous and at the same time, the government can also provide development effectively.

Earlier in his speech, Ellron also called on the residents of this district to fly the Jalur Gemilang at their respective premises, whether at offices, homes or business premises throughout this month of Independence to express their gratitude as Malaysians.

He reminded Malaysians in this district to be more aware of the Jalur Gemilang around them.

“Let us be determined to apply a mentality and inject a caring attitude among the community so that they look up and respect the Jalur Gemilang as a symbol of the identity of this beloved country.

“Let’s not take for granted the matter of safeguarding the dignity of the country’s identity and image and together we preserve unity as one big Malaysian family,” he said.

Also present at the ceremony were Assistant Minister of Works and Bingkor Assemblyman, Datuk Robert Tawik, Assistant Minister of Community Development and People’s Well-Being and Tulid Assemblywoman, Flovia Ng, Liawan Assemblyman, Datuk Annuar Ayub Aman, State Information Department Director, Nadzerah Abdullah, District Officer, Walter Kenson, District Police Chief, DSP Nor Rafidah Kasim, heads of state and Federal Government Departments, community leaders, teachers and students.

Ellron together with Robert, Flovia and Annuar flagged-off the participants of the Kembara Merdeka Malaysian Family Convoy to the destination of Nabawan and Tawau districts.
