Malaysian and Philippines Navies strengthen ties via TMP

Sandakan: The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) and Philippines Navy have organised 20 series of meeting through the Trilateral Maritime Patrol (TMP) throughout 2018. As for the 20th series meeting, Malaysian navy vessel KD Sri Gaya met the BRP Anastacio Cacaroyin (PC 387) of Philippines Navy on Dec 27 which is the last meeting of the year at the maritime border of both countries.Both vessels were in the middle of carrying out patrols in their respective territorial waters and had a meeting for Information Exchange Initiative to identify hotspots as well as implementing exercises.

Among the exercises were Manuvra Taktis (Mantak), Rescue and Assistance Fire Fighting. Cross deck activity which involves visits to their respective workplaces to recognise the procedure adopted by RMN and Philippines Navy were also held in the efforts of strengthening understanding between both marine forces. TMP initiative was mooted under the Trilateral Cooperative Arrangement (TCA) programme launched in June 2017 and has produced a particularly beneficial impact in reducing cross border crimes.It has also improved confidence of local and international communities on Malaysia's capabilities and the Philippines together with Indonesia in managing maritime security issues especially in the Sulu and Sulawesi seas. - Winnie Kasmir
